• The Royal Borough of Greenwich is home to a vibrant community of Londoners from all over the world. In 2017, Greenwich’s population was a quarter (24%) black (African or Caribbean), a fifth Asian (14%) or other (3%) ethnicities.

As a result, families from low and middle income regions who travel to their home countries are at risk of contracting Malaria and bringing it back to London. This has resulted in Greenwich habing the third highest rate of Malaria of all boroughs in London.

  • With a small grant from the London Engagement Collaborative’s Good Ideas Fund, METRO GAVS and the NHS Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust were tasked with developing a plan to facilitate a strong working relationship between the NHS infectious disease unit and voluntary sector organisations that serve predominantly West and East African communities in Greenwich.

  • I facilitated the design, execution, and evaluation of three workshops designed to educate the voluntary sector in the issue of Malaria in the Borough, facilitate conversations ion ways of working to ensure the reduction of Malaria in the Borough, and co-produce materials and plans to execute the reduction of the disease.

  • I completed a Case Study report following the completion of all three workshops. Accessible public health materials were co-produced and I created a plan of accountability to ensure the NHS Trust and the Voluntary Sector Organisations committed to a long term working plan.
